How to Install the Smart Data Streaming Plugin for HANA Studio

In order to use the visual authoring tools, debugging functionality, and other SAP HANA studio tools for smart data streaming, you’ll need to install the streaming plugin. The plugin isn’t installed by default, so you’ll need to do it separately. However, the installation is simple and should only take a few minutes.

Depending on whether or not you have HANA studio installed, you’ll need to follow one of the sets of instructions below.

Case 1: HANA studio is already installed and you want to manually install the streaming plugin.

1. Create a directory on your local disk. The name you give your directory must not contain spaces.
2. From the SAP software download center, download:
– The SAP HANA smart data streaming studio package
– The SAPCAR utility
3. Save all of these downloads in your directory.
4. Unzip all packages using the SAPCAR utility:
– Open a command prompt.
– From the command line, navigate to the location of the downloaded files.
– Run the utility once for each package you are unzipping. For example, to unzip the streaming client package:

<download-directory-filepath> sapcar -xvf streaming_client_1.0.120.00_winx64.sar

5. Start the SAP HANA studio by right clicking the icon and selecting Run as Administrator. This is important – if you run it normally, the streaming plugin won’t install properly.
6. From the SAP HANA studio main menu, select Help > Install New Software.
7. In the Install dialog, click Add.

8. In the Add Repository dialog, click Local, select the SAP_HANA_STREAMING\repository directory, and click OK.

9. In the Install dialog, select the checkbox next to SAP HANA smart data streaming, then click Next.

10. Follow the prompts to complete the installation, then restart HANA studio.
11. If you are installing the plugin into SAP HANA studio for Linux, log off of the machine and log back in.

After you’re done installing it, the streaming plugin functionality is accessible through the SAP HANA Streaming Development and the SAP HANA Streaming Run-Test perspectives. You can find these perspectives by going to Window > Perspective > Open Perspective.

Case 2: HANA studio is not yet installed, and you want to install both studio and the streaming plugin.

1. Create a directory on your local disk. The name you give your directory must not contain spaces.
2. From the SAP software download center, download:
– The SAP HANA smart data streaming studio package
– The SAP HANA studio package
– The SAPCAR utility
3. Save all of these downloads in your directory.
4. Unzip all packages using the SAPCAR utility:
– Open a command prompt.
– From the command line, navigate to the location of the downloaded files.
– Run the utility once for each package you are unzipping. For example, to unzip the streaming client package:

<download-directory-filepath> sapcar -xvf streaming_client_1.0.120.00_winx64.sar

5. In the SAP_HANA_STUDIO directory, run hdbsetup.exe.
6. Choose the installation folder, then select the SAP HANA smart data streaming feature.

7. Follow the prompts to complete installation, then restart HANA studio.
8. If you are installing SAP HANA studio and the smart data streaming plugin on Linux, log off of the machine and log back in.

After you’re done installing it, the streaming plugin functionality is accessible through the SAP HANA Streaming Development and the SAP HANA Streaming Run-Test perspectives. You can find these perspectives by going to Window > Perspective > Open Perspective.
